Just a few weeks after the 1998 All-Star Game, Jacqueline and I saw a Cubs-Rockies game in Coors Field. We arrived a little late, so we didn't have much time for sight-seeing. Our seats were quite close to the field between first base and the foul pole, but we were too low to see much of what was going on in the infield. We couldn't see the Rocky Mountains in the distance, either. The brick structure, steel structure, and the fountain beyond center field all add to the ambience. This was during the heat of the historic home run race between Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire. (We had been camping for a few days and were amazed by how many home runs both men had hit in the interim.) The most dramatic moment in that game was when Sammy Sosa hit a long fly ball to center field with the bases loaded, but it was just an out. Final score, after ten innings: Rockies 11, Cubs 10.

I attended a game here in June of 1996 with my dad. The park was beautiful and we sat in center field in the "Rock Pile" section. I liked how the stadium doesn't seem too big and imposing from the outside or inside. Most new stadiums try to cram in too many luxury box levels. From the outside, the stadium blends in with the old downtown area of Denver. I can't remember the visiting team or who won but it was a great experience. The park was very easy to get too and thank god wasn't over the top in trying to manufacture false quirkyness. Other than having the thin air for the ball to travel better in, it's a great, fair ballfield for either team.
